For more than three decades, Metro Arts Alliance has made a deep impact on our communities with their contribution to live jazz. Jazz in July is Iowa’s longest-running summer music festival that evolves every year by responding to the community’s needs and requests, while keeping its greatest traditions. Each year, music groups from across Iowa apply to be part of the series. All acts perform 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Metro Arts Alliance announced today that the following bands have been selected for the 33rd year of Jazz in July, brought to you by Metro Arts Alliance:

7/4 – Eric Thompson’s Fun Time Music Hour at Urbandale Lion’s Park, Urbandale
7/9 – Dave Rezek’s Alpha State Agents at Terrace Hill, Des Moines
7/10 – The Jazz Page at the Bondurant Trailhead, Bondurant
7/11 – Parranderos Latin Combo at Waveland Golf Course, Des Moines
7/12 – Freddy Gazzo Band at Sylvan Theater at Greenwood Park, Des Moines
7/16 – Paige Harpin Group at Wesley Acres, Des Moines
7/17 – High Society Big Band at Easter Lake, Des Moines
7/18 – The Nola Jazz Band at Evelyn K. Davis Park, Des Moines
7/19 – John Morgan Big Band at Centennial Park, Waukee
7/23 – John Krantz Quintet at Woodlands Creek, Clive
7/24 – The TTP Project at Copper Creek Lake Park, Pleasant Hill
7/25 – The Damani Phillips Trio featuring Sam Salmone at 6th Avenue and Washington, Des Moines
7/26 – Christopher’s Very Happy Band at Johnston Commons, Johnston
7/30 – The Heather MacLennan Trio at City Park, Norwalk
7/31 – Scott Davis Quartet at Beaverdale Park, Des Moines
8/1 – Betsy Hickok Group and The Tighten Up at West Glen Town Center, West Des Moines

The selected list combines respected previous performers with many new groups to Jazz in July, allowing music lovers to explore new sounds. “Each concert features accomplished jazz musicians, children’s activities, and food and drink,” said Bill Wright, Metro Arts Alliance’s Board member and a Jazz in July committee member. “We are very pleased to celebrate the rich talent in our state and bring great jazz bands “live” in their neighborhood.”

All Jazz in July concerts are free thanks to the generous support of its sponsors.

 

2015 is the 40th anniversary of Metro Arts Alliance of Greater Des Moines, a nonprofit organization that advances creativity and strengthens our community by educating and enriching the development of children and adults through schools, organization, senior centers, and collaborating with other community partners. We create opportunities that provide lifelong access and engagement in the arts for all. Its signature programs are Metro Arts Jazz in July, Metro Arts Dining For the Arts, and Metro Arts Education.

Great music, along with inviting neighborhoods and parks, keeps people coming back year after year to Metro Arts Jazz in July concerts. Now in its 33rd year, this month-long family-friendly festival celebrates jazz and art with free outdoor concerts across Greater Des Moines. Brought to the community in partnership with neighborhood groups and corporate sponsors, the concerts feature both local musicians and national acts with Iowa ties. Food vendors, visual artists, and children’s activities add to the fun. Visit the concert listings page for this year’s site and band information, and get ready to grab your lawn chairs and blankets this July to join us for the ultimate summer music experience!

 Thanks to our event sponsors, Metro Arts Jazz in July is presented free to the public. More than 14,000 Central Iowa residents participated in Metro Arts Jazz in July 2014.

The Application process is now closed for Bands and Sites to be a part of 2015 Jazz in July.   Check back in November 2015 for 2016 applications.
