Julie Fox Henson, John Helmich, Tracy Engman-Finkelshteyn, Sherida Josephson, George Work, John Morgan, Steve Charlson and Pete Simonson (Tracy Engman-Finkelshteyn and John Helmich are alternate violin parts.
Interesting Facts about Belin Quartet:
- The most experience string quartet in the Des Moines area and is made up of professionals who all also play in the Des Moines Symphony.
- The Quartet presents free weekly noontime concerts throughout the summer in Downtown Des Moines in an effort to bring classical music to the working population of the Downtown area.
- The Quartet will also be performing two special concerts with Max Wellman this summer, playing jazz standards and original compositions arranged specifically for the Quartet and Max.
Band Bio:
The Belin Quartet was established in the year 2000 by a grant to the Civic Music Association by the Iowa Foundation for the Education, Environment, and the Arts, a charitable foundation created by David Belin. David Belin’s vision that the whole community should have the opportunity to share the joys of classical music is realized through the Belin Quartet. David Belin (1928 – 1999) was a prominent attorney, civic leader, and philanthropist who had a tremendous impact on Des Moines during the last half of the 20th century. A talented violinist himself, he loved music and Des Moines, and with his trademark bow tie, he was an ever-present supporter of music and the arts in the city. The Belin Quartet is a memorial to this truly great man.
