Workshop @ Union Park

Workshop hosted by Union Park Neighborhood Association at Union Park. There will be free rides at the Heritage Carousel sponsored by U.S. Bank and the Des Moines Carousel Foundation from 2 - 4.

Interesting Facts About Workshop:

• While there are numerous jazz musicians in Iowa, this trio is different in that it is committed to composing, rehearsing, and performing new music. We are trying to create new compositions that reflect our diverse musical and artistic interests and our place as artists in the 21st century. We are deeply influenced by Jazz, Hip-Hop, Central and South American musics, the Avant Garde, and R&B.
• All three members are full-time, professional musicians. We all maintain active teaching schedules and perform as sidemen 3-5 nights each week. While we perform in many groups, this is the only group that the three of us share the role of leader. We rehearse every week and have two gigs each month at the Star Bar.
• All of use are from the midwest, but have lived in various places studying and working. John grew up in Chicago, Detroit, and Des Moines, and has lived in Missouri and Austin, Texas. Karl is originally from Steven's Point, Wisconsin, but lived in New York City studying and performing for the last 6 years. Nick grew up in Des Moines, studied in Cedar Falls, and lived in Coimbra, Portugal for a year.
