For three decades, Metro Arts Jazz in July has matched talented area musicians with interesting community and corporate destinations. Metro Arts Jazz in July is Central Iowa’s longest-running summer music festival and the only festival to focus exclusively on jazz. This summer’s concert series will feature a dynamic mix of old favorites and fresh, new features including a Finale Festival at West Glen Town Center on July 27.
In 2011, the series hired 252 musicians in 31 different bands, and brought 21,825 people to 24 concert sites across the metro area, all at no charge to the public. By introducing Central Iowa residents to new music and local musicians, the festival helps educate the community about the American legacy and art form of jazz and provides a free family-friendly event for summer evenings.
Metro Arts Jazz in July is part of Metro Arts Alliance’s mission, which is to engage Central Iowans in arts opportunities and education to advance creativity and strengthen our community. Metro Arts Alliance’s goal is to educate the community on the value of the arts and to make the arts accessible to everyone.
